Erase Ink – Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQs)
How many sessions will I need to remove my tattoo?
Most clients need between 6 to 12 sessions, depending on the tattoo’s size, color, age, location, and how your body responds to the treatment.
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
There is some discomfort, but most clients describe it as similar to a rubber band snapping on the skin. We use a Cryo cooling system by Zimmer to minimize pain during treatment.
Is PicoWay® safe for all skin types?
Yes! Our FDA-cleared PicoWay® laser is designed to safely treat all skin tones with minimal risk of scarring or hyperpigmentation.
Will the tattoo be completely gone?
With the advanced PicoWay® laser technology, many tattoos can now be removed with little to no visible trace. Unlike older lasers that often left behind a shadow or blemish, PicoWay’s ultra-short picosecond pulses break the ink into much smaller particles, allowing your body to clear them more effectively.
Most clients see dramatic fading—and in many cases, complete removal—without scarring or skin discoloration. That said, successful removal takes time and patience. Treatments are spaced 6–8 weeks apart to allow your body to heal and flush out ink between sessions. Consistency and commitment to the treatment plan are key to achieving optimal results.
Can you remove just part of a tattoo?
Absolutely. We can precisely target specific areas if you only want a portion of your tattoo removed or lightened for a cover-up.
Does the location of my tattoo affect how easy it is to remove?
Yes, the location of your tattoo can influence how quickly it fades with laser treatments. Areas with better blood circulation and thinner skin—like the upper back, shoulders, arms, and chest—typically respond faster to laser removal. Tattoos on areas with poor circulation or thicker skin—such as hands, fingers, lower legs, ankles, or feet—may require more sessions due to slower ink clearance and denser skin structure.
What can I expect after a laser tattoo removal session?
After treatment, it’s normal to experience temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, and mild blistering in the treated area. These are part of the body’s natural healing process as it breaks down and clears the ink. Blisters may appear within 8–24 hours and usually resolve on their own within a week. Proper aftercare is essential—keep the area clean and dry, avoid sun exposure, and apply the recommended healing ointment (like Aquaphor or EltaMD Laser Balm). Most clients resume normal activities right after treatment.
